Today Tom & I finished the walls and started laying out the wood for the trusses.
Jim came over and filled back in the trench between the house and observatory. Then the three of us fought a bit to drill post holes for the uprights of the pergola to hold the roof when it is rolled off. Drilling through the hard shale was not easy.

| Yesterday I ordered steel for my roof track and wheels from Mcmaster-Carr. They both were delivered today. Another step closer. Due to a family event on Saturday, I am unable to work on anything until Sunday. I am not sure what they didn't understand that I need to work on this. Just kidding! Family first! |

Life has been busy for the last couple of weeks but today we were able to do all the framing. We were able to get plywood on two of the walls and conduit ran to the pier for power and other cables.

Okay the pier is poured and Tom showed up shortly after. Now it's time to start laying the floor.
There is one and only one thing to remember right now Tom...Don't hit the pier with anything!!!

The big day. I poured the pier!! Checked everything 10 times. It took 17 bags of sakrete. Spent $32.00 on an electric mixer. That was by far the best $32.00 I have spent. I leveled the mouting plate from Pier-Tech and checked everything 10 more times. Everything looks great!!!

I had the excavator dig me a 160' trench from the house so I could place a 2" piece of conduit for all my computer/telescope wires and a 1" piece of conduit for the electrical wire.

Cole and I drilled holes for more rebar sections and placed the sonotube.

Tom and I got to do the final layout and measuring in order to know how tall the sonotube needed to be.
Tom loved posing for Sarah to be able to take some pictures of us working.

| Another good day...I am liking the garage contractor. He offered to pour a footer in the bottom of the hole with left over cement from the garage foundation. Put 10" of cement in the hole and stuck two pieces of rebar in the center. |

| We are finally getting started. My excavator that was building our new garage offered to dig the hole for the pier. He dug me a nice 4'x4' hole that will give me plenty of room to work in and form up my pier. |

Well we own the new house! Today my friend Tom came over and we started planning where we will be building the new observatory.
We took some measurements and after some back and forth I decided on a 14' x 12' buiding. We layed out some patio stones to be able to mark the corners. |

Hello and welcome to STNY Astronomy / Tilbury Hill Observatory!
STNY Astronomy started a long time ago as a hobby. I had a telescope and I wanted a place to put info about the hobby I really love.
Life happened and the website took second seat for a long time. I am going to attempt now to breathe a little more life into this, while I am designing and building my new observatory.
Please check back for details on the observatory. |
